Name, photo and mobile number the evening before pickup.

A licensed local team we choose, held to our standards.

The day, hour by hour

  1. 15:00Pickup, anywhere in Dubai

Hotel, residence or apartment. You have your driver's name, photograph and mobile number before you travel.

  2. 16:00Tyre deflation, on the edge of the dunes

Ten minutes while your driver lets the pressure down to about 15 psi — soft tyres float on sand instead of digging in. Restrooms here, and the last shop before the desert.

  3. 16:20Dune bashing

Forty minutes across the red dunes. Ask your driver for gentle or hard and he will drive to it — this is your vehicle, not a convoy.

  4. 17:00Sandboarding and the sunset stop

On the crest, with the board and the light. The best photographs of the day are taken here and your driver knows the spot.

  5. 17:45Camel ride

A short ride across the open sand. Longer treks can be added — see the add-ons.

  6. 18:15The camp

Rose water, Arabic coffee and dates at the gate. Then henna, shisha, camel feeding and the falcon.

  7. 19:30BBQ buffet dinner

Grills, mezze, salads and Arabic sweets. Vegetarian and vegan on request — tell us when you book, not on the night.

  8. 20:30Tanoura and the fire show

Traditional spinning dance and fire. During Ramadan the camp's entertainment changes — tell us your date and we will confirm what is different before you book.

  9. 21:00Stargazing

Fifteen minutes with the camp lights down. On a clear winter night you will see the Milky Way.

  10. 22:00Drop-off

    Back where we collected you.

  11. The morning safari, from 07:00
  12. 07:00Pickup, anywhere in Dubai

Early, deliberately — the sand is cool and the light is long.

  13. 08:00Tyre deflation, then into the dunes

The same ten minutes on the edge of the sand, then forty minutes of dune bashing on cooler, firmer morning ground.

  14. 09:00Sandboarding, then the camel ride

With the sun still low behind you, and then across the open dunes.

  15. 10:00Refreshments in the shade

Arabic coffee, dates, water and fruit in a shaded majlis. No dinner and no shows on the morning safari — we would rather say so than dress it up.

  16. 11:30Drop-off

Back before the worst of the heat.

Questions people actually ask

Is this really private?

Yes — the vehicle and the driver are yours. We do not put other guests in your vehicle at any price. At the camp you share the space with other guests; the camp is not ours alone, and we will not pretend it is.

How far out do you go?

About fifty kilometres, an hour each way, to the real red-dune belt — not the small dunes twenty minutes from the city. Ask any operator this question before you book; the answer tells you a great deal.

Is dune bashing safe?

Our drivers are trained on these dunes and you set the intensity. But see "Who should not do this" below — for some people the honest answer is no.

Who should not do this?

Dune bashing is a genuine physical experience — a 4x4 climbing and dropping down soft sand at angle. It is not suitable if you are pregnant, or if you have back, neck or heart conditions, and we will not take that booking however much you want us to. If that is you, you have not run out of desert: there are wildlife safaris in Dubai with no dune bashing at all, and we will happily tell you who to call. We would rather lose the booking than hurt you.

Morning or evening?

The evening is the full experience with dinner and the camp. The morning is shorter, cooler and cheaper, and in high summer it is the one we would book ourselves.

Are quad bikes included?

No — an add-on, quoted before you leave Dubai rather than sold to you at the camp. Our drivers earn no commission on them.

What about vegetarian or vegan food?

Available, and better if you tell us at booking rather than on the night.

Is there alcohol?

Not included, and not sold in the desert camp.

What happens during Ramadan?

The camp's entertainment changes, and exactly what runs is not the same every year. Tell us your date and we will confirm what is different before you book, rather than after.

Can we bring children?

Welcome, and child seats are free. Tell us their ages and your driver will pitch the dune bashing to the youngest passenger, not the loudest.

What if our flight is late, or plans change?

Tell us and we move the start — no charge on the same day. Cancel up to 24 hours before pickup for a full refund, no questions asked.

Who actually runs this tour?

Your booking and your itinerary are ours. The tour is delivered by our hand-picked, licensed local team working to our standards — and you have your guide's name, photo and mobile number the evening before. Nobody re-sells your booking and nobody adds a margin on top of ours.
